Be Open To Life Lessons

Posted at 8:09 pm under Uncategorized

You may know that I’m running for a position on the local governing board of my town. That’s why my blog posts have been scarce lately. Campaigning is time consuming work.

Part of my political approach involves knocking on every door in town, and, even though I live in a small town, that’s still a lot of people for one man to visit.

The experience has been amazing.

I’ve always had a heart for the well-being of others,  but this experience has increased those feelings.

In the past, I’ve wondered exactly what I could do to improve things in my community, and this experience has helped me discover real  needs community-wide.

It’s also helped me to discover the heart of this community. It has been my belief that most of the people in my small town are open and friendly and warm, and this experience has shown me that they are even more open and friendlier than I had ever imagined.

When this campaign is over, win or lose, I have received life lessons that have made the hard work worthwhile. It has been amazing.

As you go about your day, consider all of the people that you meet along your way. Take the time to say a prayer for them or to send them positive thoughts and energy. If you are open to the experience, smile as you pass…say hello…engage them in conversation.

There are opportunities for life lessons in each serendipitous connection.  If you pay attention and remain open, you will be amazed at what you can learn from each person you meet.

Hi Buz, so so cool you are running for public office!!

I’ve gone door to door for political candidates and believe
that experience to be exactly as you say: exhilerating, really,
because people want to discuss how they can make a difference.

We want to hear how you are doing in this current adventure
and know that life lessons await you at every turn!!

Buz – wish you all success in your campaign. Been there – done that. I served two terms on council and it was the best experience! I hope you get as much enjoyment and fulfillment as I did. I am here for you, if you ever have questions or issues.

I imagine Buz as a wonderful leader, it is no surprise to me he is doing this. Good luck Guru Buz with the campaign, if you get some time, come over here and do the UK as well, we could do with it!

As usual, you are providing more food for thought. I grew up in a small town, and later lived in a small town for about 5 years. I do love the constant interaction with people in small towns. For the past 30 years, in a much larger town, I have discovered that the community pride is about the same, but it is different. In a larger town, you do have to seek out the opportunities for getting to know folks.
I certainly admire what you are doing – making a big difference where you are. Your town would be so blessed to have you in office!
